Dr. Robert "Smith" Nielsen is currently focused on C-H activation, having worked in the Goddard group on Pd-catalyzed asymmetric oxidation, thermoelectrics, and hydrodesulfurization.

Smith joined the group in 1999 as a chemical engineering graduate student. After time as post-doc and staff scientist, he became a Director in 2007. He previously earned his B.S. in chemical engineering at Northwestern.
