Commercial glasses typically contain 7-10 elements. Thus we expect there are a number of chemically different types of sites on the surface of the glass. We would like to know something about those sites and about their reactivities. The first thing we want is just an atomic level picture of what the glass surface looks like.
Everyone that develops sizings has their own idea of what the glass surface looks like and how it interacts with various molecules. We want a more realistic model of that glass surface and how various molecules interact with that surface. Listed here are some of the molecule types that we are interested in.
