Graphical User Interface
In order to make the gasoline refinery program accessible to the largest number of people, a user interface was developed for it using the Tcl/Tk script language. Tcl/Tk is a language designed to allow for quick and easy front end development. It is a script language like PERL, so no compilation is necessary and simple changes to the interface can be accomplished at a rapid pace. It is freely available for almost all computer platforms to allow maximum portability.
Commands can easily create and organize text, entryboxes, and buttons to produce a clean interface, as shown at left. This interface is a vast improvement to accessing the core FORTRAN program when one wishes to change initial starting variables. It also connects to a graphing package to display the computational output with the click of a button.
